This chart highlights some differences between simply using technology versus authentic classroom integration. These ideas are thought-provoking and timely, especially as we continue to add more and more Chromebooks and iPads to our classrooms. Not only is it important for us to find those teachable moments throughout the school year to teach Digital Citizenship to our students, but we really need to reflect on how we are integrating the technology. Considering the TPACK and SAMR Frameworks along with the ideas presented in this chart are great places to start as we reflect on the use of technology with students. Kudos to TeachBytes for this neat graphic and to TeachThought for the article! Be sure to check out my Pinterest Boards on Digital Citizenship and Tech Research to further delve into the ideas presented in this post! Enjoy!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and LOVE is in the air! A friend and colleague recently shared a video that will prove it, and I had to pass it along. Teaching digitial citizenship and taking a stand against cyberbullying starts in the real-time interactions and relationships between kids in our classrooms, schools, and community. These young men are true inspirations! Happy Valentine's Day! <3 Launched in January 2017, the NC Kids Digital Library offers over 3,700 eBooks, audiobooks, videos, and Read-Alongs for kids in Pre-K through 4th grade. This first-of-its-kind resource is available for free through 85 regional, county, and municipal libraries in North Carolina through OverDrive's digital reading platform. Literacy resources can be easily accessed through the custom website or the OverDrive app. All that's needed to get started is a library card! It's hard to believe that we're already into December and preparations for the holidays are in full swing! Today, a friend and colleague shared a resource with me that was just too good not to pass along. Google Santa Tracker looks to be so much FUN! I know kids (and adults) will LOVE it! You'll definitely want to check it out! Google's Santa Tracker (which has apparently been around for 12 years) is launched on December 1st as a way for users to celebrate the season. This year, they've outdone themselves! Set up like a traditional advent calendar, Google unlocks a new surprise every day. It could be a video, game, or educational activity. There appears to be several fun coding activities that I'm going to be sure to try, and I encourage you to let your students try them as well! There's also a section for educators - complete with lesson plans. Then, on December 24th, the Tracker goes live allowing users to follow Santa on his trip around the world! This year, they'll be showcasing Santa's dashboard, which "features the latest and greatest in Google Maps technology and sleigh engineering." Users following Santa's progress will also get to learn more about his stops along the way! Be sure to check it out and HAVE FUN!!!

Thanks for the excellent resource, Dr. Karri (@dr_karri)! Also, be sure to check out the wealth of internet safety and digital citizenship resources on this website! You'll find tons of links to resources, videos, lesson plans, and even complete grade level curricula! Last year, I assisted several teachers with using Google Forms for tests and quizzes. We used the Flubaroo Add-On to immediately grade the assessment and communicate results with students via email. Each teacher was blown away by the capability of these tools. Over the summer, as I was exploring the format of the new Google Forms, I noticed that it had an added quizzing feature for classroom use. I didn't have an opportunity to try it out, but wondered if it would eliminate the need for using the Flubaroo Add-On. Today, I stumbled upon a couple of blog post by Richard Byrne of Free Tech for Teachers that helped answer some of my questions. In July, he posted an article on Flubaroo Compared to the New Google Forms Auto-Grading Feature. By reading, I learned that the New Google Forms does make it easier than ever to turn forms into quizzes and automatically grade them without the use of a second party add-on. However, I also read that the features offered through Flubaroo are currently more robust. Richard Byrne also created several video tutorials highlighting some Flubaroo features that are often overlooked: printing grade reports for students and parents, accepting multiple correct responses, and enabling automatic grading and grade sharing. I've embedded these tutorial videos below. You might also be interested in how Flubaroo allows you to award extra or partial credit on quizzes. I would LOVE to help you and your team get started with using these tools with your students! If you're interested, please let me know so we can schedule a time!
