Want to follow the presidential election with your students? Check out Chase the Race in School 2016, a website created by Discovery Education and Envision. You'll find digital content and resources related to the Primaries and Caucuses, Media and Debates, the Conventions, and Election Day. The site also offers an Election Year Timeline and Live and Archived Events. You can even sign up for a Virtual Field Trip to Washington, D.C. to experience the Presidential Inauguration Summit Event. In a recent blog post on Free Technology for Teachers, Richard Byrne highlights two excellent online video tools. For teachers who assign videos for homework or classwork, and especially those who are applying flipped or blended classroom models to their instruction, these tools could definitely prove to be valuable. Video Notes allows the creator to save and share synchronized notes about videos. Notes could include information to highlight or questions for students to answer and are hyperlinked to the part of the video that relates to the note. Video Notes also integrates seamlessly with Google Drive accounts. Vialogues enables teachers to invite users to a discussion about videos. Comments, surveys, and questions may be also be added to the video discussion, and time stamps provide a direct link to the relevant video content. Global Wrap highlights key world events in multiples segments that are developed for grades 6-12. Teachers in upper elementary grades could preview segments or transcripts and could pick and choose segments from either video to share with students. Go to My DE Services and scroll down to the Global News block on the right side of the page to access weekly content. Get your grade-specific content by clicking on the drop-down arrow in the upper right corner of the Global News window.
